Corine Diacre was sacked as coach of the France women’s team months before the 2023 World Cup, according to a statement from the local football association, due to her strained relationship with some of her stars.
The 48-year-old coach has a contract with the French national team until 2024, that is, before the Paris Olympics, but she has found herself in a difficult situation after captain Wendy Renard, then Cadidiato Diani and Marie-Antoinette Katuku were announced last month. that they will not participate in the national team if it remains in its place.
And the French Football Federation, in a statement on Thursday, said that the problems in the national team had become “irreparable”, in connection with which “the decision was made to end the mission of Corine Diacre at the head of the French women’s national team”, which she oversaw. in 2017.
And this decision was made after the conclusions presented by the committee, which was commissioned by the acting president of the French federation Philippe Diallo “to prepare a report on the conditions of the French women’s national team, taking into account the various positions taken by many players.”
“The numerous hearings that took place allowed us to prove that there was a very large separation with key players and revealed a contradiction with high-level requirements. This separation has reached the point of no return and is harmful to the national team,” added the French Federation.
Despite the fact that the French Federation has acknowledged the seriousness and involvement of Diacre and its support staff in the performance of their duties, it appears that “the observed breakdown … cannot be repaired”.
The executive committee of the French federation has not decided who will replace Diacre in the leadership of the national team at the World Cup, which will be held in Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20.
