Algeria coach Djamel Belmadi called up Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar for the first time since he decided to play for his country, after he previously played for France.
And the Algerian Football Federation on Wednesday released the list of players Belmadi had called up to play against Uganda for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in CĂ´te d’Ivoire, which Algeria had previously claimed.
The match will take place on June 18 in Cameroon due to the fact that Ugandan stadiums do not meet African Union (CAF) standards.
Algeria will also play a friendly against Tunisia in Annaba, Algiers on 20 June.
Aouar, a French citizen and Algerian by origin, topped Algeria’s list in those two matches.
Avar, 24, announced last March that he had changed his sporting nationality after he previously played one cap for France in a friendly against Ukraine on October 20, 2020.
After being called up to the Algerian national team for the first time, Aouar posted a photo of him in an Algerian national team jersey on his official Instagram account, commenting: “Finally, we will meet soon.” and attached it to the Algerian flag.
