The statement added that the labeling in their case is “untrue and misleading.”

Although the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation is funded by the government, its editorial independence is protected by the Canadian Broadcasting Act.

“Twitter can be a powerful tool for our journalists to connect with Canadians, but it undermines the accuracy and professionalism of their work, thus allowing us to distort our independence.”

“We will be suspending our activity on our corporate Twitter account, as well as all CBS and Radio Canada News accounts,” she added.

The CBC urged Canadians to follow her on other social media.
