Erdogan to Propose Mediation to Putin for Resolving Ukrainian Crisis in Ankara

A source in the Turkish president said that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will again offer his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin his mediation in resolving the Ukrainian crisis during the next meeting of the two leaders.

The source said: “Mr. President will offer his mediation to resolve the conflict on the basis that there will be no winners in the war and no losers in the peace process. As you know, Ankara has repeatedly called for a permanent ceasefire, because as soon as possible and sit down at the negotiating table… We will continue our efforts.”

He added: “Mr. President can today be the only world leader who enjoys real trust from the leadership of Russia and Ukraine, can be in constant contact with them and do everything to establish peace in the region.”

And the Turkish presidency announced earlier that Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin agreed during a telephone conversation on the visit of the Russian President to Turkey.

Erdogan indicated that the Turkish foreign minister and intelligence chief are working with the Russian side to coordinate the meeting, suggesting the meeting would take place in August.
